AIRBUS

Brief Introduction

Logo Airbus - 16:9

Airbus is currently the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer and develops, manufactures and sells civil and military aerospace products. The company has three divisions:

  • Commercial Aircraft
  • Defence and Space
  • Helicopters

Airbus can look back on more than 50 years of proven technology in aerospace.

The portfolio of Airbus Defence and Space ranges from aircraft, satellites and manned space missions to cyber security.

In Earth observation, Airbus has accumulated over 680 mission years of experience in orbit. In manned spaceflight, Airbus has integrated the main European contributions to the International Space Station (ISS) as system leader and has actively supported its operation ever since. Findings from this are directly incorporated into the design of new space stations, in which Airbus is also involved. In addition, Airbus is actively involved in NASA’s Artemis programme with the development of the ORION service module, which aims to return humans to the moon.

Role in the Project

Airbus is involved in all the main work packages as part of the overall project: Governance, Data Spaces, Smart Services and Pilots, thus contributing its holistic view as a leading European system integrator. With the help of the COOPERANTS project, Airbus is aiming to place internal digitalisation projects that have already been planned in a broader context so that new digital processes not only function internally at Airbus, but also extend across the entire value chain. Airbus is primarily responsible for establishing the COOPERANTS data room and moderates the various smart service developments and pilot applications. Airbus is also in charge of developing its own smart services as a contribution to the GAIA-X-based digital marketplace, with a focus on collaborative engineering using shared models (digital twin), collaborative programme management, simulation and AI-supported assistance functions.

Added Value of COOPERANTS for Airbus

Airbus is a leading European systems integrator in the civil and military aerospace sector. The products/programmes in this sector are highly complex and are usually processed with many – locally distributed – customers, partners and suppliers. At the same time, there is a lack of common standards for data exchange (ontologies, formats, protocols), technical infrastructures, interfaces and platforms. There is also a lack of governance and a regulatory framework. The fear of jeopardising one’s own property rights or even classified information inhibits the exchange of structured data for all parties involved. In addition to technical work on standards and a data room architecture based on GAIA-X, an important objective is therefore to establish the necessary trust for data exchange. The COOPERANTS project aims to show how trust-based collaboration with partners can work with shared data and digital services, thus creating the foundation for a future data ecosystem for the entire industry. The aim is to increase the overall efficiency of collaboration with partners and at the same time create new opportunities by creating value from data. As a system integrator, Airbus will be able to benefit from this in many ways.
